Cozy Reads for December

Five soft escapes for the season of too much
As the “season of too much” settles in — too much noise, too much pressure, too many plans — I always find myself craving a small escape. Something warm, gentle, and a little magical to curl up with. December feels like the perfect month to slow down and soften into a story that gives you breathing room.

Here are the cozy reads on my list this month — light, whimsical, and just enough warmth to keep the chaos at bay.
1. The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore by Laurie Gilmore
Sweet, soft, and exactly the kind of low-stakes romance that feels like a blanket in book form. If I don’t finish it this weekend, it’s first on my December list.
2. How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin
A cozy mystery with charm, personality, and absolutely no horror — perfect for winter evenings when you want intrigue without anxiety.
3. Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne
Gentle fantasy, sapphic romance, and a magical tea shop? It’s giving comfort, soft adventure, and found-family energy.
4. Accomplice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer
Light fantasy, chaotic humor, and quirky villain-sidekick dynamics. A fun read when you want something playful instead of serious.
5. The Christmas Tree Farm by Laurie Gilmore
The next in the Cinnamon Bun Bookstore universe — festive, cozy, and a perfect December mood-setter.
I’m not planning to read these in any particular order… but if I can curl up and finish all five before New Year’s Eve, I’ll consider it a personal victory. December is always full enough — I’m letting my reading be the gentlest part.
I hope this list brings you inspiration for your own cozy corner this month — or nudges you toward the book already waiting on your nightstand.
