When December Becomes Too Much

When December Becomes Too Much

There’s a moment every December when the noise finally catches up to you.
The gatherings, the back-to-back plans, the errands, the cooking, the rushing — it all piles up quietly until your body whispers the truth you’ve been trying to outrun.

Enough.

This happened to me last week.
Nothing dramatic. No crisis. Just a full weekend, a full schedule, and the pressure to show up when, honestly, I had nothing left to give.

I told myself I could push through.
I told myself it was just “one more thing.”

But when Sunday arrived, my body reminded me who was actually in charge — and it wasn’t my calendar.

Instead of relief, anxiety rolled in.
Even the simple task of sending a text felt impossible.
You know that feeling? When you're so depleted that even canceling plans feels like a failure?

That was me.

And beneath the exhaustion was a deeper fear:
What if I let someone down?

But a truth surfaced the moment I finally set the boundary:

No one hates you for being human.
And if they do, they’re not your people.

We all have low-confidence moments when we’re tired or emotionally stretched thin. It’s not weakness — it’s a sign that your body has reached its limit. And during the holidays, those limits arrive quicker than we expect.

Because December isn’t just joy.
It’s overstimulation.
It’s obligation.
It’s emotional residue and old patterns.
It’s the quiet exhaustion of trying to be everything to everyone.

So if you reach that point this season — that “I don’t have it in me today” moment — pause.
Put your hand on your chest.
Take a slow breath.

Remind yourself:

You are allowed to take care of yourself first.
You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to say, “Not today.”

People who love you don’t want your leftovers.
They want you well.

And you?
You deserve to be in your own corner.
You deserve to honor your limits without guilt.
You deserve a holiday season that doesn’t cost you your peace.

If you feel rundown in the days ahead, don’t wait until you break.
Don’t push past your body’s whispers.

Slow down.
Step back.
Let the world keep spinning without you for an afternoon.

You’re not falling behind.
You’re protecting the part of you that everything else depends on.

Ritual for the Week:
Give yourself permission to cancel one thing — even something tiny — and choose rest instead.
